Here's a few more "little guys" for the pocket. Two are Spalted Willow Oak,and the other two are a Silver Maple with a little curl to it. I've been looking at some Ironwood on e-bay(beautiful stuff),but man it's expensive for a decent size piece for a fork. maybe I'll stick with my blowdowns! Laughing  Flatband Smile

After my experiences with the tempermental ironwood I would not make a catty from it, too dangerous. Nice looking willow oak  Wink

Hey CK,did you have a tough time with the Ironwood? I know it's supposedly toxic but was is tough to work? I love the way it looks finished out. Maybe I'll  wait and see what you have to say about it before I spend a bunch getting it! Smile Flatband

A friend sent me a nice piece of Mahogany. I got 8 frames out of it. Mahogany is great to work and finishes out beautifully. These are a couple of little guys -"Pocket Shooters". Flatband Very Happy

Here's a few more I recently made up. The 4  Universal Ergo's are Mahogany and are very small. I carved them to fit either a womans or kids hand. The other 2 are medium frames. One is a Sassafras for the pocket, the one with the awesome flame(curl) is a new type design for me. It's a Curly Walnut, cut Universal Ergo style but with 2 slots to mount the bands. Sassafras has got to be one of the nicest smelling woods to work. They used to make Sasparilla ( a type of Root Beer) from the roots. It's real nice to find a piece of Walnut with that kind of figure in it. Flatband Very Happy

FB,

That walnut 'shot is truly beautiful, like a piece of dark chocolate!

My mahogany mini is doing very well now with a set of TexShooter's Express bands.  Very handy and convenient; I think it is my new number "1".

Later, 'ol boy,

Thanks DT,I'm becoming a " log keeper " lately. The guy next door cut down a big Sassafras tree,up the street another guy cut down a Sweet Gum and a Silver Maple. I got pieces of all of them drying out with the bark on. Jeez for an inner city kid,I'm sure turning into an old Country boy fast! Very Happy  Flatband

Here's a few more I turned out. The one in the middle is Cherry, the other 2 are Walnut. The Walnut Ergo has a small bit of curl on the thumb pad. I tried to incorporate as much of the little curl the board had into the frame. Cherry finishes out real nice and is a real tight grained wood. The Cherry one is a straight handled Ergo with double slots for the bands. The other Walnut one is a smaller frame that I actually screwed up on. One of the prongs is longer then the other. It worked out okay though because I just used that side for my index finger to brace against rather then the shorter thumb. Hey,maybe I found out something new by accident! Shocked  Flatband Very Happy

Hmm outta the 3 I prefer the cheery. A good light coloured wood. They always have such a nice finish on them.  Smile

Thanks Sneaky,I like the Cherry too. I finished another one up this morning. This is my first "Spanish Style" Slingshot. The Spanish are very serious when it comes to slingshots. They have to be a certain size, weight, bands have to be of a certain pull,no braces, or aiming devices. This is the attachment that is most popular over there. All it is is a piece of 6 ounce leather strip forced and glued into a drilled hole in the top of the prong. I haven't rigged it up yet but just from the feel,I wouldn't strap it with real heavy pull bands. Should be fine with a medium-light draw. It's carved from Walnut. Flatband Very Happy

looks good Gary. one thing that has always puzzled me about the spanish style attachment; what do you do once the lethar strap eventually wears out and breaks? Question

Man,you must have read my mind. I wondered the same thing. I guess yank it out and do it over again. You could probably use Paracord or some kind of climbing cord. That would last longer. Figured I'd give it a try. Very Happy Flatband

I just finished up 2 more frames. These are small but very thick frames. The dark one is Teak the other is Cherry, Teak is a very oily wood. Had a little trouble with the finish but she came out okay. Been fooling around lately with lowered prongs. Makes for a more steady shot because the pull is closer to the wrist-less torque. Working on one now that is called IPE ( Brazilian Walnut). Very hard stuff. Flatband

Very Happy

Here's a picture of 2 more frames I finished up. The dark one is "IPE" (Brazilian Walnut),the other is small Osage Orange carved Ergo Style for a left hander. The IPE is an awesome wood with good grain, very hard, heavy and finishes well. The Osage is even harder and becomes darker with age. Flatband Very Happy

Here's a couple I finished up today. From left to right top to bottom:

A poplar pocket shooter
A right handed Maple Ergo-Small frame
A Regular frame Universal Ergo in Teak
A pocket shooter in Teak
And a double slotted straight handled universal Ergo with a wide deep throat for bigger ammo and loads, also made from Teak. Lot of fun! Very Happy  Flatband

Here's a couple more I finished up this week. The first three are Maple Burls and they are Universal Ergo's (small -medium frames). The other picture is the three with two others,a Sassafras Pocket Shooter and a Poplar Chief AJ pattern. The burls are wild to cut. You'll be carving into real hard stuff one minute and the next right through like butter if you're not careful. Only one frame had a soft spot with a few small voids. It still is safe for shooting though. Fun! Very Happy  Flatband Smile

Here's a few more medium frames carved in an Ergo style. These are not sealed yet. They are Sapele or African Mahogany. I love Mahogany. Light, works easy, strong and really finishes out nice. I'll be sealing this weekend,(in between the "Honey Do List"! Laughing ) Flatband Smile

Here's a couple of shooters for a nice guy up in New Brunswick, Canada. He was forced to retire due to health and like the rest of us, just loves to shoot. He figured he'd take these with him on his walks for some plinking or that game animal that could go into the pot! Smile Flatband
