Yeah, the color of the loucust turned out nice, osage is next on the list, just need to figure this saw out, it keeps acting up and won't cut straight. I made a mulberry one yesterday, turned out o.k, a few thin stress cracks in the handle so I probably won't shoot it much if at all. I need to pick up some paste wax to shine these things up Very Happy. Yeah, that may be sound good to him, but it won't fly with me Laughing. I've got wood to buy and knives to re-handle, can't afford to be paying no bills Wink .
Take it easy

I just finished up 2 straight framed Ergo's for a friend of mine.He wants to give them to his nephews for Christmas. These were the last 2 pieces of a chunk of aged Mahogany that I had.The nephews are 9 and 10 years old and the slingshots are sized accordingly.I can't think of a better way to teach children properly about weapons then to start them off with a slingshot. If they do good with a slingshot, you can bet they'll do well with higher powered weapons. This one is walnut, a lefty. It's going to the far side of the pond.

I just finished an Ergo for myself made out of Black Walnut.I got this piece from CK and his Dad. Thanks! It turned out to be a real nice fit. It's the first time I worked Walnut. It's similar to Mahogany in that it's a dusty wood, rather then a shaving type when you work it.Easy to work and strong.I designed this one with big wide post tops to accept multiple wide tapers.I finished it with three coats of water-based gym floor sealant.Hey,it was free and I got a gallon of it,why not? I'm gonna rig this one to shoot marbles for short range target work.I formed a pouch with 5/8" double cups to accept the marbles.I got about 2000 of them, may as well use em up! Flatband Cool

Thanks CK,Lately I've been going back to putting heel knobs on the bottom of my slingshots. It kind of locks your palm into the handle and gives your hand more support when it's done right.I used it years ago and somehow got away from it.We'll see how she shoots! Flatband Smile

I rigged that Black walnut slingshot with STRAIGHT latex tourniquets I had laying around. They were 1" x 6 1/2" relaxed sling triple straps each side.I haven't used straight bands in a few years,so I figured I'd give them a shot again.Used a double cupped pouch made just for marbles.Shoots nice and smooth and fast. The pouch worked great.Sometimes with a flat pouch you get wild shots coming out of the pouch with marbles(fliers). With this pouch I didn't get any.I made this one up for short range target shooting.I made a couple extras. If anybody else likes marbles for targets, send me an e-mail and I'll get one out to you. The pocketed pouches are the only way to go IMO. The last batch I molded up out of some suede aren't holding up good, the holes keep ripping out, so I'm gonna fill the molds with some vegi tan here in a bit, so they should be ready to cut by this time tommorow. I've never had any problem with vegtable tan pouches holding up.

Yeah CK,this stuff is veg-tanned also. It's a little stiffer split cowhide then I'm used to.I think it's about 4-5 ounce leather.1/8" thick about. It takes a cup really nice and holds the form because of the stiffness. It should last awhile.I made it as light as I could.Shoots nice though. You want to try some, let me know,I'll ship a piece out to you. Flatband,
Thanks for the offer, but I've got plenty of vegi tan right now, I just got a whole roll of it. The molds are filled up and the leather is about 1/2 way dry, should turn out some nice pouches this round. I tried one I made previously from this leather and it is holding up real well. I think mine is about the same thickness as the stuff you are using, somehwere around 3-5 ounce I'd say.

Here's two slingshots I just completed. The one on the left is Cherry, and the other one is Zebrawood.I got these two pieces of wood from CK and his Dad.I still have another piece of Zebrawood that's rough cut, just got to finish it out.I've been using this pattern with much success. They both have high thumb braces and palm knobs in the handle.I have a piece of thick Mulberry(also from CK and Dad).I think that one I'll try an old slotted attachment.Only these slots are gonna run on a 45 degree cut in the posts.I'm thinking less band slap then a straight cut.Back to the shop! Hey CK,that Zebrawood worked out good.I (and your Dad) thought it might be too thin, but it held up well.I got one I'm working on now for a left-handed guy in Germany. It's old Maple from a kids see-saw.This one is thick but I did something different and it feels good.I made a deep thumb groove. The wood has to be a little thick to do this.I put the first coat of sealer on her. When she's dry I'll snap a pic.Could be a new pattern change(what else is new)! Hey Vic,the stuff I seal them with lately is Gym floor sealer. We were cleaning out stuff at work over the summer and I found it.We don't use it anymore-haven't for years,so I took it rather then throwing it away. It's water based, easy clean up,and it doesn't do a half bad job. What the heck it was free and the finish is pretty tough. Here's a picture of a left-handed Ergo I just finished for someone in Germany. It's Maple and has a deep thumb groove.I tried something different on this one because it didn't feel right as I was carving it.I went with a deep groove instead of an edge thumb rest.I got away with the deep groove because it was a thick piece of wood.It really worked out well.Sometimes the best things are found by accident. Now I gotta make me one!!!! I just finished up these two slingshots. The one on the left is another Zebrawood frame and the one on the right is Mulberry.I cut the Mulberry one with a deep thumb groove because the piece of wood was real thick.I was going to make a slotted attachment, but I like an over the top set-up better. The Zebrawood has a standard edge thumb rest. Thanks to CK and his Dad for these nice two pieces of wood.Hey, Everyone have a safe and fun filled Christmas and New Years and good shooting to all! Hey Flatband,
Glad to see you put the wood to use, they turned out nice. I love the growth rings in the mulberry, I need to make me one of of that sutff, looks like it takes the grooves real well.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, that goes for the lot of ya!
