Hi, I finally got caught up on my bridge building and had time to make myself a new slingshot. I used maple with 1 inch .030 latex bands shooting 1/2 inch steel this a comfortable set up for me. I put a finger strap on it so I don't have to grip the handle. I shoot with my fingers on the forks and it takes no effort with my little finger to keep the slingshot square and plumb with the world. The images are front and back.

"Old Red Innertube Rubber"
A friend from Canada sent me a piece of the old red rubber we used as kids for one of my frames. This is the stuff from the innertubes of tires we found at gas stations and also truck tubes we used when swimming. This is a little thicker then what I remember but it does smell the same. I rigged up a 1/2" straight set of bands on a modified Vortex. I was shooting 1/2" and 9/16" steel balls and was probably doing around 150-160fps. There are faster rubbers out there but as I remembe ...

Target practice- Does ammo matter?
I was practicing yesterday with steel bearings and some .440 round ball I had bought based on advice from the forum. The round ball hit harder, but was consistently a couple inches below target. If I mostly practice with the cheaper steel bearings, it seems like my aim be off when hunting with the round ball.
For those of you who hunt with lead, it that what you practice with? Or do you make some kind of mental adjustment in your aiming based on what you're using that day? Would a more power ... |

Lansing, Michigan
Just wanted to introduce myself. As the father of two little girls, I sometimes need to get out of the house for a while. My obsession is backcountry camping and fishing (both fly and spinning). I go on overnight trips in northern michigan about once every two weeks. I generally don't bring much food on these trips, preferring to eat fresh fish, game, and whatever wild edibles are available at the time. I usually carry a slingshot in my fishing vest (a Daisy F-16 with 3/8 steel bearings) for thi ...
